Nelson, a treasured and devoted companion, passed away very suddenly, yet peacefully on February 20 at 3:30 a.m., at 14 years old, held closely in his mom’s arms.
For fourteen years, Nelson was a steady and loving presence in the home he shared with his mom. As a true mama’s boy, he filled their days with companionship, comfort, and unwavering loyalty. His presence brought warmth to every corner of their home, and his absence leaves a quiet that is deeply felt.
Nelson had an adventurous heart and a deep love for the outdoors. He was happiest side by side on the trails with his mom, proudly serving as her adventure partner. He loved hiking, swimming, playing in the snow and exploring new paths, stopping to pee on every tree along the way as if claiming the trail as his own. One of their most treasured memories was a special road trip to Colorado, just the two of them. Together they drove through the mountains, camped beneath wide open skies, and embraced the quiet beauty of nature side by side. It was time spent exactly the way he loved most; outside, exploring, and together. At home, he treasured evenings at his favorite sunset spot at Ferne Clyffe and Cannon Park watching the sun go down with his mom. Whether soaking up the sunshine or finding any excuse to be outside, Nelson embraced every moment.
If you were lucky enough, you were greeted with his smile, teeth showing and full of personality. He was very vocal about what he wanted, whether it was treats, attention, or another trip outside. He cherished slow morning cuddles in bed, loved being cozy under the blankets and especially enjoyed his favorite butt rubs. Each year he happily enjoyed his birthday celebrations with homemade cake made by his mom and absolutely loved ripping open his Christmas gifts.
Nelson shared a close bond with his Grandpa Rich, faithfully serving as his buddy while they spent time roaming the yard together. He enjoyed walks with his Grandma Angie and was also loved dearly by his Uncle Ryan. He adored his two human besties, Bastian and Flynn and took his role as their loyal companions seriously. Whether splashing around in the pool, running alongside them or simply staying close by their side, Nelson loved being with his boys and watching over them.
Though many more adventures were planned, Nelson’s fourteen years were full of sunshine, mountains, laughter, and unconditional love. He was held until his final breath, surrounded by the love of his mom.
Nelson will always be his mom’s sweet, handsome boy and loyal adventure partner. His love remains in every trail walked, every snow day, every warm ray of sunshine and every peaceful sunset, reminders that the bond they shared can never be taken away.
Run free my sweet boy, the adventure continues.
